Depression
A profound feeling of despair and hopelessness, depression has been referred to as the ‘common cold’ of mental illness. Symptoms often include anxiety in cases of agitated depression, or depression may alternate with hypomania in bipolar disorder. One of the principal dangers of depression is suicide. Typical symptoms include:
deep, persistent sadness
lethargy
loss of appetite
loss of motivation
inabilty to concentrate
insomnia
a sense of guilt
not washing or changing clothes
Hopelessness and thoughts of suicide.
